Best Libraries in Singapore for a Romantic Date

A date with books

It’s a cliché, yet heart-fluttering, library scene often seen in rom-com dramas: couples fall in love after a lingering eye contact while reaching for the same book across a bookshelf. This portrayal taps into the fantasy that romance flourishes not only in grand gestures, but also in quiet spaces where two people can slow down, connect, and write their own story together. For couples in Singapore, the library offers exactly that kind of charm.

Many may not be aware but one of the most romantic and grandest library spots in Singapore is, or used to be, the Rotunda Library and Archive, which is currently temporarily closed. Housed inside the National Gallery Singapore’s Supreme Court Wing, it boasts towering Roman columns, a domed ceiling, and rare regional art archives dating back to the 19th century. Couples can enjoy a cosy date flipping through art-related reference materials such as art magazines, biographies of noted Southeast Asian artists and more, while soaking in the grand interiors of the monumental building.

Curious to see what the Rotunda is like? You’d have to wait till after October 2027 when it reopens. But meanwhile, there are quite a few other strong contenders vying as suitable public library dating spots in Singapore. Here’s our shortlisted list.

HarbourFront Library

Located within Singapore’s largest mall VivoCity, some go there for the books, but others undoubtedly visit for the waterfront view. Try and chope a seat by the full-panelled glass windows overlooking Sentosa to watch the Sentosa Express monorail glide past as you feed your mind on your favourite reads. We heard that HarbourFront Library has a decent selection of wellness-and-lifestyle-related materials and fiction books.

Drawing inspiration from its proximity to the harbour, the library’s coastal-inspired design gives the entire space a calm and airy feel, making it suitable for book-loving couples to spend a leisurely afternoon there. But be considerate and don’t hog your seats for too long if you’re not doing any serious reading. You can always adjourn to any  restaurant or cafe within the same VivoCity shopping mall that affords the same waterfront views for your Date Part Two.

Bukit Batok Library

Get set for a sensory experience when you visit Singapore’s newest refurbished public library. When it reopened in March 2026, Bukit Batok Library became the first public library in Singapore that incorporates sound in its user experience. Now expanded to twice its floor area compared to before its revamp and occupying three floors instead of one floor at West Mall, couples visiting this library can imagine themselves relaxing and recharging amidst a naturescape that’s cool and almost mysterious.

Be greeted by a soundtrack of ambient sounds captured around Bukit Batok as you ascend the escalator on the first floor flanked by walls designed to mimic the granite rock formations of nearby Little Guilin. Another soundtrack, called Nature, accompanies you as you wander around the Sound Cave on the second floor. Stop by the series of Time Caverns to be immersed in the multisensory presentations of the history of Bukit Batok town.

The entire space is cosy and perfect for unwinding. You might even forget that you’re in a library, and one that’s in a bustling heartland mall for that matter.

Yishun Library

With rows and rows of white shelves with light-coloured wood accents, you may feel that Yishun Library is just an ordinary public library and not one you’ll consider for a date outing. But the current myNLB Rewards Programme that’s running exclusively at this library till 31 October 2026 gives you more reasons to visit that you think.

Especially if you’re a sucker for exclusive merch or freebies, you can turn your library date into a fun challenge to snag as many points as possible to redeem rewards. During the campaign period, points can be earned by visiting Yishun Library, borrowing books at Yishun Library or volunteering at any NLB library. Earn enough points to redeem NLB merchandise, FairPrice e-vouchers, Old Chang Kee curry puffs and other vouchers.  Watch video for more details.

While you’re there, cosy up to each other at one of the seven cute lime-green Learning Pods at the Digital Learning Zone, while accessing online courses or touring a virtual museum together.

Tampines Regional Library

Occupying five levels at Our Tampines Hub (OTH), Tampines Regional Library is one of those places where you can play hide-and-seek, and probably get lost, with your date. But more practically, we suspect you’ll want to make a beeline for one of the two Reading Terraces there. Considered the most scenic spots inside the library, the sprawling steps at Levels 4 and 5 overlook the open stadium at OTH, giving you an opportunity to hang out uninterrupted for hours.

Couples who enjoy a bit of hands-on learning together will also appreciate that the library houses culinary studios, with classes conducted by People’s Association. Find a course here. There is also a MakeIT creative studio for techies to dabble with 3D printing or for avid crafters to sew your own fabric accessories or clothing. NLB members can use the facilities for free with prior booking, but some of the equipment require certification to handle. Register to get started with a 3D Starter Session here.

Punggol Regional Library

Beautiful aesthetics — Check. Spaciousness — Double check. Punggol Regional Library impresses with architecture that centres around a deep atrium well surrounded by towering cylindrical columns connected to swirling light fixtures at the ceiling. It is also notably Singapore’s largest library; its floor area is larger than that of the Central Public Library! And it’s an inclusive space, designed with people with disabilities in mind, featuring calm pods and wheelchair-accessible book borrowing stations and a book collection for people with special needs.

Stroll around and discover photo-worthy nooks and crannies around the modern interiors. In 2023, a whooping 1.3 million visitors set foot at Punggol Regional Library, making it the most-visited library in Singapore that year. If you’ve not been there yet, now’s a good time to head over with your other half.

Sentosa Mobile Library

It not a library per se, doesn’t have a permanent address, and you’ve got to brave rain or shine to get to it, but we thought it’s certainly worth mentioning as a date idea. The next time you get tired from riding the waves or frolicking in the sand at Palawan Beach, Sentosa, take a breather and pick up a tome from the roving library node for an interesting beach read.

The special collaboration between Sentosa and National Library Board comes in the form of a cute buggy fitted out with a small bookshelf. All the books are pre-loved and you can read them while at the beach or back at home. Perfect for a quaint little sun-kissed time for two bookworms, no library membership required! This Stories by the Beach initiative ends on 30 November 2026.

Tips before your trip

Popular seats at higher-demand libraries can fill up fast. You can check crowd levels and pre-reserve certain desks online before your visit. Also, maintain proper etiquette and adhere to library rules, which require talking in quiet tones and keeping mobile phones on silent. Drinks are restricted to designated areas (usually cafes/lobbies), so plan to step out for a coffee during or after your library date.
