6 Romantic Transport-themed Dining Experiences in Singapore for Your Next Anniversary Date

dinner cruise

To impress your date on your next anniversary celebration, up the ante by choosing a unique dining venue that will literally take you places.

In Paris, the Bustronome is a double-decker restaurant bus that lets passengers embark on a gastronomy journey while touring iconic Parisian sights such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame.

Due to food safety, licensing and other reasons, there are currently no buses operating with full kitchen or plated service in Singapore. But there are other options that allow you to savour a meal while travelling on different forms of transportation or at least imagine yourselves on board one.

Delectable food, good company, and scenery that changes à la minute, we sussed out transport-themed dining experiences you can try in or from Singapore. Your special anniversary date will undoubtedly become a moveable feast, in every sense of the word, one to be remembered for ages to come.

Dining on the go takes on a whole new level. Certainly not for the acrophobic, it involves taking a cable car ride (not just one, but two rounds between Mount Faber and Sentosa) while tucking into a meal at least 60 metres above sea level.

Those up for the challenge will be rewarded with a chance to romance the sunset over glorious food and panoramic city views. Menus vary according to the mood you wish to create, from exquisite 3-or-4-course dinners to Peranakan heritage-inspired meals, to casual finger-food-paired-with-beer options. Prior to your aerial meal, enjoy a welcome drink on terra firma at Dusk @ Mount Faber. And cap off the memorable dining experience afterwards with dessert at Arbora Cafe. Make a reservation here.

4. Take culinary flight on Sushi Airways

It’s like stepping onto a plane without turbulence and taking a flight to nowhere. The moment you push open the entrance door of Sushi Airways, designed to look like a pilot’s steering wheel, you’ll have to trick you mind thinking that you’re boarding the steps on the tarmac into a vintage Douglas DC-3 aircraft cabin. Souvenir boarding passes included! Singapore’s only airplane‑themed sushi restaurant features interiors with aircraft‑style windows, metallic walls, rivets and cabin lighting.

Chefs whip up your meal from a compact kitchen equipped with real flight storage units and trolleys. Staff are dressed like flight crew, and the menu is presented as a flight manual. The á la carte, omakase and seasonal food selections are all exquisitely presented and quite cleverly crafted. Think maki rolls all lined up on the dish like plane passenger seats! Find out more here.

  • Boarding Point: 20A Baghdad Street, Singapore 199659

6. Travel to Osaka with Tonkatsu Daiki

Credit: Tonkatsu Daiki

Create a mini Japanese train moment right inside a local shopping mall in Singapore. The first international outpost of Michelin-recognised Tonkatus Daiki pays tribute to its roots in Osaka by inviting guests to enter through a corridor styled like a JR train carriage, with screens showing “moving scenery”. Disembark onto Osaka’s Dotonbori district, which the main dining room recreates through its interior design.

The restaurant’s star menu is of course their Tonkatsu — thick-cut premium Hokkaido pork breaded with a delicate panko crust. The meat is intentionally not seasoned to let its natural rich flavour shine and meticulously fried in low heat. Don’t be intimidated by the pork’s pink hue, achieved to preserve its juiciness and tenderness. If you need to perk up the flavour, dip the pork slices in tonkatsu sauce, mustard, salt, or order their In-house Japanese Curry Sauce as an add-on. Visit Tonkatsu Daiki here.

  • Boarding Point: 391 Orchard Road, #05-33 Ngee Ann City, Singapore 238872
  • Prices: From $29++ for Classic Hire Tonkatsu Set 120g

Frequently Asked Questions

A simple meal at somewhere like Hangar66 works well for new couples as it creates instant shared experiences and helps to build emotional memory faster. A date that requires more commitment, e.g. a train journey, is of course more suited for married couples, to reignite the spark.

Because they are part of, or recreate, an actual setting, you’ll feel like you’re embarking on a journey, not just having a meal. Ordinary cafés usually stop at decor and music but with transport-themed dining, the experience is multi-sensory.
