One of the first ideas that often comes to mind when figuring out what to do in Singapore to escape the heat is to head to an air-conditioned mall. And Jewel Changi is a standout destination that takes the idea of a mall to a whole new level.
Looking at up to 500,000 litres of water cascading seven stories down the 40-metre HSBC Rain Vortex is always fascinating and distracts your mind from the sweltering heat outside. Anyway, Jewel Changi is literally a cool place to be, not only because of the fine water mist circulating breeze from the waterfall to simulate a misty mountain climate, but also due to the building’s unique cooling system and chilled floor, which is installed instead of standard overhead commercial air conditioning.
Chill out as you shop, eat and play at the world-renowned lifestyle destination, a pride of Singapore. Imagine yourselves walking on clouds or frolicking in temperate highlands at the whimsical Foggy Bowls play area, located within Canopy Park. -86°C Dirty Coffee at Slow Boat
What is -86°C coffee, you ask? Basically, it’s a drink prepared in a glass jar so cold that it requires tongs and gloves to handle. Best enjoyed in 30 seconds, it’s an instant way to cool down.
The viral freeze-your-mind rich coffee is available in limited quantities daily at Slow Boat’s outlet at Tanjong Pagar. While your drink may be downed in a flash, do feel free to linger a long while more afterwards at the cosy café. Pick up a vinyl record from their curated collection to play at the café’s turntable or purchase one for your private listening.

Imagine you’re in Disney On Ice
With cool aircon overhead and ice at your feet, ice-skating rink is a great activity to beat the heat. For those with little or no experience, sign up for lessons at Ice Penguin, a new dedicated synthetic ice-skating training ground at Clarke Quay. Learn proper techniques on how to balance, glide, spin, and gain confidence before hitting the real rink.
After you’ve levelled up your skills together, you may plan your next date at Kallang Ice World, the only remaining real ice-skating rink in Singapore. Though we’ve come across some icy online reviews about the facility, hopefully you can still enjoy a mixture of romance (holding hands), sometimes chaos (falling down together) and icy cold wind on your face as you twirl around the rink endlessly.

Glide leisurely down the 335-metre Shiok River on inflated tubes or challenge yourself to plunge down a near vertical drop at one of the longest free fall water slides in Asia.
